  Anyone seen the Secret?

  someone lent me the dvd of the secret over the weekend.

  we watched it last night and i wondered what everyone thought of it?

  i thought that it was very "evangelical" and alot like the jw's - large on promise and small on content.

  EMERGENCY! Need some ideas

  so tomorrow is mrs slh's birthday and i need an imaginative idea for a present around $50.

  she loves neckalces, handgabs and shoes so i've bought her loads of those.

  i'm looking for something a bit more imaginative and i am stacked out at work today so don't have the time to trawl the net for ideas.

  Creating a new gym soundtrack

  so after the diet thread i'm finally getting round to moving my fat arse back to the gym regularly.

  i need to freshen up the mix of tracks on my ipod so i have something to give me a little boost while i am on the cross trainer or the running machine.

  anyone got any suggestions?

  A funny thing happened yesterday

  i called my sister yesterday - she d/a'd herself a couple of years ago but is still in the uk and lives close to my father; he's a self important elder type who is as insufferable as they generally are.

  anyway, the conversation got to talking about family as you do and she mentioned bumping into my father recently, saying that he was sorry that we were having a tough time in oz and ha had sarcastically said that if he had our contact details then he would have sent a card when mrs slh was in hospital.

  now i found this somewhat ironic because the reason that he didn't have our contact details was because he chose to not come to our wedding 3 years ago, and after that i do not want to have anything to do with him.

  So why all the guilt over sex???

  i was reading a post on here recently from some young guy who was never a witness but wanted some advice about a romantic situation and what struck me was his real guilt trip about sex, porn and masturbation.. .

  what is the reason for attaching so much guilt to sex?

  is it because we attach emotion to the closness of our sexual relationships?

  I got a job!

  woohoo!.

  i got binned from my consultancy contract just over two weeks ago after falling out with a colleague and have been stressed right out because there is nothing around in perth at the moment in the it field that i was working in.

  today i got offered a permanent role as a business analyst for a small it firm in perth!.

  Freemasonry and the congregation

  are there any freemasons who post here?

  if you don't want to add to the thread then feel free to pm me.. one of my close friends is a mason and has encouraged me to consider joining but everything i have known about the masons in the past has been negative - all bigoted jw speak.

  from what i have researched they are a fraternity who hold near christian moral values and cannot understand the vitriol the witnesses hold for them.. i have also seen pictures of rutherford's grave in a masonic cemetary so cannot understand why they would aim such negativity against a group which their founder belonged to.. can anyone shed any light on this?

  Dealing with guilt and your own self perception

  being a witness leads you to believe that if you are less than perfect then you are detached from god's love and are unworthy.

  it's a very black and white thing - either you are getting through armagheddon and keep to all of the rules, or you are not keeping to all of the rules and are going to die.

  personally i think that is one of the jw faith's greatest strengths and also it's greatest weakness - a strength in that it leaves adherents unable to question their beliefs lest they anger god enough to condemn them, and a weakness in that as soon as you discard one stone in the wall then you are forced to reject the whole structure as you feel damned anyway.. .
